MUST-ARDS

Full title: A Phase I/II Study to Assess the Safety and Efficacy of MultiStem® Cell Therapy in Subjects with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Aim: investigate the safety and potential benefit of an adult stem cell product in patients with ARDS.

Background: Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) develops in patients who are often unwell for other reasons such as pneumonia, severe infections or following a serious injury. ARDS is a life threatening condition that affects your lungs resulting in a dangerously low level of oxygen in your blood.
There is a need for better treatments of ARDS to increase the survival rate of patients with this condition.
In a number of scientific experiments in animals with lung injury, stem cells have been shown to improve recovery from this injury, hence we are interested to see if this happens in humans.
