Josh is a molecular biologist specialising in next-generation sequencing. He travelled to Guinea in West Africa to establish a the first fieldable mobile laboratory to perform viral surveillance during the Ebola virus epidemic. He also developed methods for sequencing low-titre viruses from clinical samples which have been widely for Zika virus in the ongoing outbreak in Brazil. He is currently working on untargeted methods which could be used to rapidly identify pathogens in clinical samples ‘on the bench or by the bedside
