09:00 – Welcome and introductions
This session will feature a welcome from the Surgeon General, Surgeon Vice Admiral Phillip Raffaelli, and Dr David Cox from the Department of Health, as well as a presentation from Professor Sir Keith Porter on the clinical problems of the injured patient.
Surgeon Vice Admiral Raffaelli joined the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1976 and studied medicine at Edinburgh University. Dr Cox is Deputy Director – Research Finance & Programmes in the R&D Directorate at the Department of Health. He is responsible for policies, systems and programmes for commissioning research. This includes research which informs DH policy, as well as research funded through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) focused on the evidence needs of health professionals, patients and the public. Dr Cox also has responsibility for NIHR’s research training and career development programmes.Find out more about Dr David Cox
