William Withering Lecture 2013

30 October 2013

The 2013 William Withering Lecture, “Military mental health: Myths and Realities”, will be given by Professor Sir Simon Wessely, the Director of the King’s Centre for Military Health Research at King’s College London.

Ten years have passed since the start of the Iraq war. But what has been the impact of this on the mental health of the UK servicemen and women who have served there? Are they, as some claim, all depressed, demoralised, dangerous and drug addicted? Is there a bow wave or tidal wave of problems heading our way?

Prof Wessely will look at what we know about the mental health consequences and what perhaps we might expect in the future.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 30 October, 2013, at 5pm at the University of Birmingham’s Medical School Building, in the Leonard Deacon Lecture Theatre.
