On Saturday 4th October, four members of the NIHR SRMRC team completed a 5km race held on the University of Birmingham campus.

Conor Bently (Senior Research Practitioner), Arlo Whitehouse (Research Nurse), Ron Carrera (Research Nurse) and Hannah Brooks (Communications Officer) all completed the course in less than 26 minutes.

The event was named “Buds Run” in honour of athletics coach Bud Baldaro, who also suffers from Parkinson’s disease. Despite his condition, Bud continues to coach numerous athletes, including 2012 Olympian and 2011 World Championship 1500m silver medallist Hannah England (pictured above with the SRMRC team), alongside the University of Birmingham athletics club. All proceeds from the race were donated to Parkinson’s UK.

Conor Bentley said, “It was great to be part of this fantastic event and to be out there raising money for charity and awareness of Parkinson’s disease. It’s good to see our colleagues from the NIHR SRMRC working as a team both in and out of work.”
